Vaterstetten-Alem Ketema Friendship Association chair receives award on behalf of Ato Girma Fisseha (Feb 12, 2015)
Vaterstetten, a city in the Upper Bavarian district of Ebersberg in Germany and Alem Ketema in North Shewa, Amhara Regional State of Ethiopia celebrated celebrating 20 years of friendship last month. The Chairman of the Vaterstetten-Alem Ketema Friendship Association, Mr. Anton Stephan received the honorary award, a model of a lion, on behalf of Ato Girma Fisseha. Ato Girma, a resident of Vaterstetten played an important role in strengthening the partnership of the two cities and the Mayor of Vaterstetten, Goeroge Rightsberger described Ato Girma, who works as a curator in the Munich Ethnographic Museum, as the “Ambassador of Vaterstetten in Alem Ketema” and as very important in the relationship. “He contributed a lot in the construction of the kindergarten and library in Alem Ketema; and without him”, the Mayor said, “things would have been difficult.” Mr. Rightsberger paid a visit to Alem Ketema last year, and underlined the strong partnership between the two cities. Ato Girma was given a certificate of recognition in 2014 for his outstanding service in promoting Ethiopian values and for tirelessly promoting the twinning of Vaterstetten and Alem Ketema.
