Ambassador Berhane Gebre-Christos, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, welcomes Ms. Ulrika Modeer, State Secretary for Development Cooperation of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden in his offices (March 26). Ambassador Berhane, upon bidding a warm welcome, expressed the Government of Ethiopia appreciates the development cooperation between the two countries. The State Minister also stressed the keen interest of the Ethiopian Government to further deepen and broaden the existing strong bilateral ties. The Ambassador noted the overall efforts of the Ethiopian Government have been successful in addressing the structural problems of the nation, and thus moving forward in transforming the Ethiopian society for a better future. By identifying the seeds of instability, poverty, backwardness and other forms of socio-economic ills, the Ambassador said, “we have now managed to establish accommodative political system of governance and an inclusive growth.” In so doing, the Ambassador further noted that substantial achievements have been gained in forging accommodation of diversity in the exercises of rights across languages, cultures, and religion and gender equality. In addition, the State Minister underlined that the inclusive political system of governance that Ethiopia embarked on decades ago paved the way for decentralized platforms, where power devolution reigned, thereby making the peoples of Ethiopia to be the sole owners of the political power and the decision -making process. Finally, the Ambassador emphasized that these achievements are the fundamental sources for the stability in the country, which has helped Ethiopia to be an active player in bringing peace and stability and promoting regional integration in Eastern Africa. Appreciating the long standing relations between Ethiopia and Sweden, Ms Ulrika, on her part, said the new Government in Sweden hails the inclusive growth that Ethiopia has managed to achieve. Ms. Ulrika also said the Prime Minister of Sweden, H.E. Mr. Stefan Lofven firmly believes that the development efforts in Ethiopia are pursuing in the right path. The State Secretary also expressed the interests of the new government in Sweden for more enhanced relations with Ethiopia and the African Continent.
