Ambassador Mulu Solomon participates in the 40th Year anniversary of Gondar- Leipzig Universities Partnership.
H.E Ambassador Mulu Solomon availed herself on the 40th Year colourful celebration of Gondar Medical School with its Leipzig counterpart which took place on September 28, 2019, at Leipzig city. The event was attended by distinguished guests from Ethiopia, Leipzig city, USA as well as former students of each University.The celebration was started with the visit to the university hospital and the research facilities of the medical faculty of Leipzig University. Likewise, there were remarks from H.E ambassador Mulu Solomon, where she has stipulated and recognized the contribution of Leipzig university, the then Karl Marx University of Leipzig, on the establishment of Gondar Medical faculty under Addis Ababa University in the late 1970s. Besides, the ambassador shared the current status of the ongoing reform in Ethiopia and Ethiopia’s role in the stability of the Horn of Africa. H.E has also appealed for more engagement between the two universities. She has also shortly presented the achievements of Ethiopian Reform Process and peace efforts and results.
On the occasion, there were exchanges of experience from former Ethiopian students in Leipzig as well as former German Teachers in Gondar.
The partnership of the two universities dates back to 1979 when the contract was signed between Addis Ababa University and the then Karl Marx University to reorganize Gondar Medical School. The cooperation included exchanges of teachers, students, research, medical equipment and facilities.
On Sept 29, 2019, H.E Ambassador Mulu Solomon was greeted by Ethiopian Diaspora community residing in Leipzig and the surrounding. During the meeting with the Diaspora, H.E has explained the great results of the ongoing reform and current situations of Ethiopia as well as she stressed on the role of the Diaspora in contributing to the overall development endeavours of their motherland, Ethiopia. Accordingly, H.E has requested the Diaspora community to continue buying the GERD Bond and contributing to the Ethiopian Diaspora Trust Fund #EDTF. She has also urged the Diaspora to engage actively in promoting Ethiopia in business and image building areas.
After the discussion, it was agreed to work closely with the embassy through would be ‘advisory council’ and future foundations to be formed as discussed. The ambassador, on the other hand, promised to support and provide efficient service to the Diasporas.
