German Companies Encouraged to Invest in the Health Sector in Ethiopia
An Ethiopian Delegation comprised of H.E. Dr. Lia Tadesse, State Minister of Health of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Mulu Solomon, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Germany and the business and Economic Diplomacy Section of the Embassy participated in the 6thGerman African Healthcare Forum held on 30thOctober 2019 in Berlin, Germany.
State Minister Dr. Lia Tadesse briefed participants that Ethiopia is among few countries who have managed to register overall progress in the Health Sector. Improved access to healthcare facilitiesin Ethiopia through deployment of more than 40,000 health workers as part of the Government’s commitment to ensure access and quality healthcare to all was highlighted.
Presenting Ethiopia’s success story on the High-Level Panel on Africa’s Healthcare Sector, the State minister further highlighted efforts in Ethiopia to build a competent and compassionate healthcare professional and ensure quality healthcare. However, it was mentioned that lots of determinants of healthcare can not be achieved by government alone. To this end, private companies in Germany were requested to participate in pharmaceutical manufacturing, tertiary healthcare services and digitalization of the healthcare.
A meeting was held with Siemens Healthinners with a view to fast tracking the process of starting an assembly and maintenance of medical equipment by the company in Ethiopia. The delegation also participated in “Women in Global Health Breakfast Meeting”, a meeting of high-level professional women and corporations and personalities from all part of the world who are contributing to the global health sector development.
The 6th German African Healthcare Forum was organized by the GHA – German Health Alliance in cooperation with the German African Business Association (Afrika-Verein) and in cooperation with the World Health Summit (WHS).
