H.E Ambassador Mulu Solomon Bezuneh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Federal Republic of Germany held a web conference with German university professors and researchers on the current situation in Ethiopia.
During the conference, she briefed the participants about the current status of the law enforcement operation in the Tigray region, which was undertaken to restore constitutionality and rule of law by the Federal Government, and that the military operation is now by and large completed. H.E. Ambassador Mulu Solomon also explained that the operations were carried out with all the necessary precautionary measures for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructures in order to avoid collateral damage. Now the government’s focus is and will be the reconstruction and rebuilding of the affected region, providing humanitarian assitance and ensuring the prevalence of rule of law.
She also pointed out that the Federal government was too patient with the provocative action done by TPLF group in the last three years, but was, however forced to take measure after the TPLF group crossed the red line by attacking the National Defense Forces stationed in the Tigray region, thereby threatening the very existence of the country.
H.E. also discussed about the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the status of the trilateral negotiation with the lower basin countries. She affirmed Ethiopia’s position to always upholds the principle of fair and equitable utilization of the Nile river without causing significant harm to the lower basin countries.
